The Skinny
Back in the day, the space at Alhambra and N housed a nudie bar (or "gentleman's club," as staff and patrons fondly dubbed it). Now, gone are the pasties, poles and g-strings, thanks to Boz Scaggs, who found the location to be a prime spot for a duplicate of his San Francisco club. A throwback to Rat Pack-era Vegas, it's furnished with seductively low lighting, teeny cocktail tables meant for ear nibblings and intimate tete-a-tetes, and stylin' naugahyde booths. Performers like The West Coast Playboys, Rusty Zinn and Guitar Mac and the Blues Express grace the stage six nights a week. The Bottlenecks hold acoustic blues gigs every Monday, and lead Okra Pickle Gwamba kicks out a one-man acoustical jam on select Tuesdays.

The Crowd
When there's anybody there, they're fans of the blues and of the cocktail lounge lifestyle.
Take a cab

The parking is limited, and using the lot at the motel next door is frowned upon.

Take care

The tables are small and close to the dance floor, making them a precarious perch for your potables.

Take cash

The Blue Lamp doesn't accept plastic.

Great place

My favorite place to play music in Sacramento and to see music. Good stage, good drinks, good sound. Really top notch

Fair prices on beers, great shows, Second Saturday and art friendly even. This is a great place to check out music. I've seen the indie bands like The French Kicks, Thao Nguyen, Enon here. Local bands like Agent Ribbons, Dungeons and Drag Queens, and Ditching Mindy here as well. Holds indie electro-dance, Charming Band, Reggae, rock, and more.

Dont forget the punk rock!

If your looking for a place to see a show and you came across this profile, Dont believe everything that you read! Iv seen hip-hop shows... Punk rock shows and Heavy metal shows at the Blue Lamp. Its not all oldies and blues!! That review is pretty unaccurate! Just so you know.
The Blue Lamp is a great little place to see a show, no matter what the genre!!
