I Didn't Want To Like Mall Food....

But the broken rice, chicken clay pot, and fresh spring rolls got the better of me. Ok. So it's in a mall. But how about the fact that it's also the same mall that houses a Bristol Farms on the same floor, some of the best sushi bowls and Korean kalbi neighboring around, and an Herve Leger and Louis Vuitton shop as well?!! They don't call the Bay Area "new money" for kicks.

After surrendering to Out the Door's location, your taste buds can enjoy the ride. Great, friendly service. Though not heavily promoted, walk-ins are promising, even on a busy shopping weekend. Other than the staples I suggested above, some other must-trys are the glass noodles with crab and the daikon appetizers. I actually prefer the seating space of Out the Door over its haughtier older sister, Slanted Door.

Final word? I'm a repeat customer.

Fanciest mall food ever.

Haute cuisine, just a couple doors down from Hot Topic? Only in San Francisco, man, only in San Francisco. Now, I *love* the Slanted Door, the exquisite parent restaurant to this surprising food-court baby of an eatery, but Out the Door isn't quite as awesome. It's not ***that*** much cheaper than a meal at the Slanted, but instead of getting to eat there, you get to eat in a bloody food court of a bloody mall. I'd say, if you have choice and forethought, pack a PowerBar to get you through your Westfield adventure, and save your pennies for a dinner later that night at the Slanted. That said, if a desperate afternoon of battling sale-shirt-grabbing banshees at Abercrombie or wherever leaves you yearning to remember that earthly happiness is indeed possible, you could do worse than dropping 10 or 15 bucks at Out the Door.

Best food court ever!

I like this place a lot! The Food Emporium (or a I like to call it... The Emporium of Food! Doesn't that sound so dramatic?) is the best food court ever, and this is my favorite place in it.
I guess some people might think it's a bit pricey for mall food, but it's really good quality, and cheaper than the Slanted Door!

I've been here several times, and have tried many of the dishes. The caramelized shrimp was awesome, but I don't eat shrimp anymore for sustainability reasons. I really miss it, though. It was soo good! The chicken and veggie buns are delicious, and I really like the broccoli & tofu. My friend got the chicken sandwich once and liked it a lot.

They try to use compostable products, but I still don't like their take-out containers. You can reuse them if you wash them, though.
I wish they would give you "for here" plates!

Fancy Vietnamese

I think for the most part, I prefer the cheap, regular Vietnamese food because it just doesn't feel right paying $9 for a bowl of pho that's half the size as regular pho, even if they use Niman Ranch Beef. But sometimes, when you have $$ to splurge, the food here is good. At the takeout counter, you can get veggie or chicken buns, sandwiches (which, for some reason, are served until 5pm), and some of the hot dishes. But I gotta say a lot of the stir-fries have really small portions, especially considering the price (I think meat ones are like 9 bucks for less than half of what you'd get at a regular Vietnamese place). Plus, they have the corn-based "eco-friendly" containers and utensils, but the whole thing feels over-packaged and I wish they would spend less on amenities like that and give us a better deal.
