In Short
Set in an area west of Hillcrest known as Middletown, the club occupies a secluded location and nightlife niche. With DJs spinning hip-hop, dance, pop and reggae tracks every night of the week, the red booths and dance floor are often packed. The small spot attracts a crowd that's higher on edge and lower on swank than Gaslamp clubs. Its remoteness makes bar-hopping a challenge, so plan to stay at Bar Dynamite all night long.

A good bar to get down and funky, groovin' to some DJ tunes.

I've only been there on Mondays and Wednesdays and I like it mainly because it isn't a sports bar and they have house music with no cover. They usually spin progressive/electro/tech house on Mondays and deep/funky house on Wednesdays. Usually, it gets the most crowded on Wednesdays. The DJs are usually locals (no big name DJs) and are usually pretty good.

Bar D is a one room bar with roughly ten booths along two of the walls that fit about five people each. Finding an empty booth usually isn't a problem. If Wednesday, best to get there before 11pm or 11:30 to reserve one because sometimes it gets a little crowded. It's pretty dark inside, illuminated by dark red lights. The Decor is average, nothing special.

There is a lot of room to dance, but not that many people do. Usually only a quarter or less of patrons are dancing, which is good cause it makes more room for me and no one steps on my shoes.

There is a mixed crowd. Some down to earth house music lover types and others who look and act like they you fit in better somewhere playing top-40. I haven't seen any thug/ghetto types there, so that's definitely a plus.

I don't know about the price of beers, the only drink I get is a Red Bull vodka, which is $5; it comes in a short glass and is filled with a lot of ice. I recommend requesting no ice to get more for your money. Tap water is free, which is a plus. The bar closes around 1:45am.

It's nice it's right next to Lucha Libre (Mexican restaurant) and a liquor store (if you want to be a cheap-o and down a cheap drink before entering). Bar D is also within walking distance to about five other restaurants off India if you want to get some food before going dancing.

There is a sign on the door that says there is a strict dress code, but I've never seen it been enforced.

This is where real house music lives

If you like good, soulful, deep house music this is the place to be on Wednesday nights.

If you show up before 11 don't be surprised if the place looks barren, but by 11:15 there will be a decent crowd and many nights by midnight it will be jam packed.

They bring in Excellent DJs from all over the country and world on a regular basis. Always free to get in.

Fun for some..

Bar Dynamite has various DJ's on different nights of the week. The DJ's all spin different styles so the crowd varies greatly. The ambiance inside is fun and hip. Drinks are on the weak and semi-pricey side. There is a pretty decent sized parking lot and many places to grab food in the area.
