The Scene
This bare-bones, cafeteria-style restaurant draws a crowd of diverse in-towners with its economy dining. Counter service is fast and furious; dishes are prepared while you wait and handed over on plastic trays. Despite this joint's popularity, tables aren't hard to come by in the large space. Ambience is low-key and the furniture smacks of a college dorm.

The Food

The food is as straightforward as its delivery. Counter one offers fresh, semi-made-to-order pasta, including spinach tortellini and a bold-flavored pesto, served with vegetables and meats (try the perfectly steamed broccoli and Italian sausage). Counter two offers a smoky, well-seasoned jerk chicken, served with vegetables or black beans and rice. Choose from a selection of beers, including the pungent, alcohol-free Jamaican ginger beer, or a crisp, brewed iced tea. Finish with a rich, moist brownie.

Cheap!

"Consider dinner at Eats on Ponce De Leon Avenue, where a large lasagna plate costs just $6.50. It’s a delicious meal."

This is my first official review. I would like to say that I live in the arear where eats is located and I think it is a great place to get a quick bite to eat without sacrificing quality. The jerk cicken special at $7.50 is a great meal. Also, Ziti with the pesto sauce is a excellent choice if you are into pasta.
The atmosphere at eats is great. Located in the heart of Midtown, there are different types of people that eat there. So I recommend that you stop by and enjoy.

RAD.

This is a great restaurant. This was my uncle's fave place to eat way back in the early 90s. Unfortunately, he passed away the year before I was born, and whenever I hit this spot, I think of him.

But not only does this restaurant hold my family's memories from way back when, It's also an awesome place to eat. The decor is totally it's own and very homely. I also love the food here. Every time I come to this restaurant, I order a big plate of spaghetti with garlic bread on the side. Usually, I have to take it home, But the spaghetti and the bread are absolutely delicious!

I recommend this to ANYONE looking for the true taste of Atlanta, or just anyone, for that matter.

The only thing that keep me from giving this place an A+ is that the MAc and Cheese SUCKS! otherwise, the service is good and there's something on the menu for everyone.

Eats

Sssshhhh.... don't tell but.....
I have to frequent the ATL often during my daily travels at work. I always allotted enough time so that I could sneak into this restaurant at least once or twice a month.

Always a friendly atmosphere. Sometimes you can catch the owner out back catching a breath. Very friendly gent he is. Just don't block his dumpster. Sorry guy... had to throw that in. Located across from the old City Hall East Building in a small block bldg. with simply the word "Eats" on the side. Parking is very tricky around lunch hour so come early or you can park in a nearby lot approx 2 blocks away. Inside you will find a simple arrangement of tables very closely spaced. They offer two lines of menu in which you order at the counter. Service is speedy and uncomplicated. Prices are unbeatable.

One line offers pasta. Any kind of pasta (even spinach) with your choice of sauce. From what I hear it is wonderful. I always choose the other line which offers your choice of very spicy jerk chicken, meatloaf and a few other meats. The choices of veggies are black beans, collards, mac&cheese, sweet potato and a few others. The cornbread has just the right amount of sweetness (not too much/not too little). Lemonade, sweet & unsweet tea and your choice of fountain drink is available. They do have a dessert menu but I can't recall it because I am usually too full to get it.

The menu of my choice that I rushed all four lanes of traffic for is none other than the jerk chicken, black beans and cornbread. And if this isn't enough to please the senses the crowd always is :).
Thank you Don for introducing me to this wonderful place :)

Huge portions, hard parking

Eats really has what no other spot on Ponce has, and that's simple, always quick dishes to order, no matter what time of day.

The Jerk Chicken is amazing, always. Anyone who has stepped foot in the door will tell you that. The Vegans can go to town on the pasta menu, or just order from the lovely vegetable choices on the main menu. Alot of flavor, usually always under 8 bucks or so, and always a cool spot to sit, Eats serves Atlanta well, time after time.

Also, they were formerly cash only, but now you can slide your plastic, ya heard.

Good cheap food.

For 7 and change, eat good and get full. Simple menu...pasta/sauce selection on one side meat and veggies the other. The jerk chicken claims to be the best in Atlanta...cant say that, but its pretty good. The sweet potatoes and greens are usually good. And contrary to a previous review, if you know anything about cornbread...the cornbread here is the real deal.

Affordable Eatery - Jerk Chicken is the way to go

This has been a spot I frequently have gone to for many years. It's been in the East Atlanta - Midtown area for as long as I can remember. The building is located from the old City Hall East building. The parking accommodations can be a bit challenging as it can be a pain to locate a decent space.

My favorite dish is the jerk chicken. I usually include the baked sweet potato and collard greens as my side. The baked sweet potato is average but not terrible and the collards are pretty decent. The jerk chicken is pretty flavorful and the chicken isn't dry or bland. The meat is tender and effortless to ingest. It's not fine dining but it's pretty damn good for what you get.

The pasta section has about 9 different combination's whereby you can mix and match. The portions are generous and you will either leave with a doggy bag or ditching the rest. The pasta can be overcooked at times so beware.

You definitely get the bang for the buck here and won't leave hungry. My personal recommendation would be the jerk chicken. You won't be disappointed. Just stay away from the unimpressive sides of corn bread or macaroni and cheese.

Inoffensive and Unchanging Eats?

Lifetimes seem to have passed since I last dined at Eats, so consider yourself warned. I remember a simple menu involving jerk chicken, pasta, and assorted sauces that included alfredo and marinara. I think you could get steamed vegetables then, too. “Inoffensive” is the word that comes to mind in this connection. A cafeteria-like queue and a stripped-down interior are the images that linger for me. Of course, everything I mention here could have changed in the many years since I was an Eats irregular, but the exterior doesn’t seem to have been altered one bit, so….
