L.A.'s original blues club still serves up the best live jams in an intimate setting.
Established in 1931, Harvelle's is the oldest live music venue on the westside. The dark, sexy room is the perfect spot for listening, dancing and drinking to the best local, national and international artists. Harvelle's is a Santa Monica staple for live jazz and blues music acts. Every Sunday, don't miss The Toledo Show for pure unadulterated soul, jazz and burlesque performances. Mention you found us on Citysearch.
In Short
Long before the House of Blues came to town, there was Harvelle's--still considered by most to be L.A.'s truest music club. This small, dark venue offers live tunes and dancing nightly, showcasing local and touring bands that play the blues spectrum, from West Coast swing to R&B- and soul-influenced jams. The atmosphere is unpretentious and adult. Portraits of greats such as Billie Holiday and B.B. King adorn black walls, while a black-and-white checkerboard dance floor lies before the stage.
Know Before You Go

Eat before you arrive, as there is no food service. The cover charge varies depending on the act, but early birds get in free.

Parking

A city parking garage is located just south of Harvelle's. Evening parking is $3.

What to Drink

Consider the Harvelle's Blues Buster: Skyy vodka, DeKuyper's blue Curacao, 7UP and sweet and sour.

BEST KEPT SECRET IN SANTA MONICA

Who knew that just on the other side of 3rd st promenade there was this ultra-cool, speakeasy chic, glorious little hole in the wall?!
From the door to the floor, this spot offers quality live entertainment that you can enjoy in jeans or cha-cha heels!
The crowd is completely unpretentious; no snobbery for miles...but you definately get the feeling that your a part of something special and exclusive on nights like sunday when the iconoclastic Toledo Show takes over with his special brand of gothic soul...or on wednesdays when the 'Vibe' kicks in and the entire room is swaying to some soulful tribute or steady rocking to a carribean beat. Tuesdays are all about live afro-latin fire and sequins flying as Walter's sax serenades his bevy of burlesque beauties.
Plus DJ Daylight spins your azz off during the breaks!
Come One Come All! There's no place like this showplace for sure...if you're looking for a good time, baby...they've got what you need!

Nice atmosphere

Harvelle's is a great place to go for live music any night of the week. Some regular favorite nights are Sundays for The Toledo Show (soul/rock/jazz with hot dancers) and Wednesdays for House of Vibe (Funk/hip hop/rock/reggae r&b) They're pretty ecclectic. They'll go from doing Donny Hathaway to Led Zepplin.
