  • British pub and restaurant
  • One block from the beach
  • Gift shoppe
Authentic teas, pints and fish and chips at this lively British pub by the beach.
The internationally known British Pub and Restaurant has flourished through several expansions. The restaurant serves daily specials like Sunday roasts, fish-and-chips, burgers, bangers and more, inside a comfortable and casual setting. The Pub is traditional with its own social life. Its popularity for a "pint-stop" is almost legendary. People come from all over for happy hour, soccer games, Trivia Night, karaoke and of course, the warm comfortable atmosphere that is second to none. The British tradition continues next door with Ye Olde King's Head Gift Shoppe, offering PG Tips, Cadburys chocolate, Heinz baked beans, Jewelry, fine wines, cheeses and other wonderful gifts.
In Short
This well-appointed, laid-back pub is full of accented expats who traded London fog for California sunshine. The menu features traditional British pub and teahouse fare. The Welsh rabbit, a concoction of cheddar cheese, beer and spices, is a good base for a bellyful of British ale. Fish and chips are filets of fried Icelandic cod. The chicken salad features cream curry, raisins and celery. Fortnum & Mason tea, Royal Dalton china and other British goodies are available at the attached gift shop.
Happy Hour

Enjoy half-priced pub snacks and drink specials--$3 well drinks and house wines and 20oz beers for $4--Monday through Fridays from 4pm to 7pm, at the bar only.

The Extras

The Sunday roast and British breakfasts, solid meat-filled selections in their own right, have vegetarian plate options with all the trimmings and a reduced price tag.

When to Go

Every afternoon, Monday-Saturday, high tea is served in the aptly appointed Hunt Room. Finger sandwiches, petit fours, scones, fruit, Devonshire cream, tea and a dose of gentility are available.

THE KING'S HEAD, as you will call it, Hot British Pub-Santa Monica Beach

If you are a bit like me, you will finish some of your Saturday nights at their breakfast table without leaving The King's Head, except for a few strolls to the Beach to fill up with free ocean air! Parking is easy IF use of Shopping Mall's on 2th, just around the corner. Crowd is HALF Australian, Scottish, Irish, British-this frenchie is favored, why complain- and HALF American. Naughty British Girls for naughty chats, decent though. Most major Sports Events in the World on mega screens (The Top!), and still no noisy tumults but extreme funny reactions of TV Watchers are worth the trip:)! Date cheaters check all the rooms, first. You might find yourself loving English food, darts and rare European Beer in a way you never perceived:), it is not you, it it the place. Americanized side is subtil, not suffocating British style. One of the rare places, where you can smoke at the Terrasse, because it is not facing the nice Ocean (City rules:). My favorite, 5 kinds of meat mixed plate, can still not do it home. Closeness to great shopping from Fred Seagal to malls familiarl hot spots. Rare UK stuff in stores at the corner.

Not really British

This little English styled restaurant and bar in downtown Santa Monica is great for catching English Soccer and Ruby matches. Though I’m not entirely sure what makes it English other than the store attached and the dart boards with chalk and blackboard next to them.. They have no English beers on tap and the food is more American than English. The fish and chips is so-so but the outside patio is great in the summer.

Fish and Chips and Trivia

I've been here a few times for Trivia Night. Of course they have a wide range of delicious beers. Ye Olde King's Head provided me with my first experience playing trivia at a bar. It was always fun and could be super challenging at times! It became apparent quickly that there were already lots of regular groups showing up to these nights. However, the last time we went, it was way too crowded to play trivia, so we adjourned to a bar down the street. So if you're going for trivia, I recommend going well, well before trivia start time to get a table. Once I did eat dinner here before trivia. Of course, being an English pub, I immediately went for the fish and chips which I heard were great here. I have to say that I wasn't the biggest fan of the breading on the fish.
However, my friend ordered a bread pudding for desert which was amazingly delicious!

It's not a surprise that Santa Monica, home of a huge tribe of British ex-pats, would have a great British pub. King's Head has a bar area (which gets crowded early and doesn't thin out too much over the course of the night), a restaurant and a back bar, which is the best place if your looking just for somewhere to sit and chat. Parking can get tricky because of the proximity to the Promenade, but it's worth it.

the fish n chips were the reason to go here, now im not too sure.

the last 3 times i have been here i was so disappointed in the food and service that i haven't been back in about 2 years. im sad about that fact because this place was really good. they changed the batter on the fish and stopped serving the plate with a side of peas. also the service was polite, just realllllly slow. i would say this place is worth a visit for the atmosphere, but unless the food quality has changed i wouldnt recommend many trips.

Best Pub on the Westside

This little British pub is by far the best place to drink on the west-side. Offering several rooms, including the king's room, which is filled with portraits of former Monarchs, this bar/restaurant provides the clientele with several options of where to commit their sins.

In the main Pub area, there is a juke box, two dart-boards, a full bar and a plethora of screens showing futbol matches from around the world. This is the final resting spot for most of Santa Monica's drunks as it seems to be the last spot to close down in the city.

The next room over is a dining hall serving up some of the best english food... that really isn't saying much is it? The english breakfast is superb, the burgers are delightful, and there are a number of other british delicacies not for the faint of heart.

One more room over, services another full bar, and access to the side-walk patio, the perfect place to drink, and enjoy a smoke on a summers evening. A little pricy for a pub, but worth it.

Good Atmosphere

There is a lot of traditional British fare on the menu. The food is pretty good, but the service, decor and location add to the charm of the place. The restaurant is not too far from the 3rd Street Promenade, if you want to go shopping before or after visiting the restaurant.
