The Scene
Neighborhood locals stop in wearing sweats. Businessmen grab pastries and muffins for meetings. Smart tourists dawdle over slow, easy breakfasts of homemade bread pudding with fresh cream and berries before heading back down First Avenue. Somehow, while growing into the city's primary restaurant bread bakery, this small storefront cafe and retail spot still retains its understated, welcoming charm.

The Food
This is not a typical neighborhood coffee shop with muffins and scones shipped in from some anonymous source in the wee hours of the morning--this is a real scratch bakery. Breakfasts find Macrina at its best. Fresh-baked muffins, coffee cakes and pastries, paired with strong cups of joe, make it worth the effort to find spare time in the morning. Lunches consist of a daily selection of sandwiches, pastas, salads and soups--all are house-made, truly fresh and consistently delicious.
The Extras

Macrina bakes beautiful cakes and tarts every day, but it also does lovely (and delicious) wedding cakes and special-event cakes.

One of my favorites places for branch and goodies

This is a really cool place for branch. One of my favorites. Food is delicious and unique. Great coffee, great salmon branch dish, one of my favorites: salmon on they own bread with scrambled eggs and salad. So Good!! :))) I love Makrina's bakery too - they're selling they own bread to different stores, including Whole Foods Market. Coffee cakes, muffins, scones, brownies - everything is good in this place. I love the vibe too - hip and modern with the smell of fresh baked bread :))) The only negative point - the place is so tiny that it can take up to 30-40 minutes to wait for the branch. And no reservation (because they don't need it :))But it worth it.
Plus in sunny days you can buy a cup of coffee and wait outside and enjoy the weather, Saturday afternoon, and do some people watching :))

Cookie Mecca!

If you love cookies, especially ones the size of your head, then Macrina is the place for you. In all my travels I've never come across better cookies than here. Macrina offers the usual stand-bys like chocolate chip, snicker doodle or peanut butter but they also offer a variety of innovative cookies as well. There specialty has to be the "Rick's" which is espresso, apricot and chocolate. There snickerdoodles have just the write balance and spice. If you're not big on sweets the apricot oatmeal will be right up your alley.

In addition to cookies, Macrina also does great breads, sandwiches and salads. There weekend brunches are amazing as well, but expect a line.
