The Scene
The pristine, peaceful, well-designed room, decorated with plenty of blond wood, serves as a dignified backdrop for the healthful food. An open kitchen runs the length of the room, allowing a view of the busy cooks. The front area features a cozy juice-bar counter. Service is casual, well-informed and very friendly.

The Food
Gobo's food is completely vegan, though not organic. The rich flavors and textures, accentuated by well-crafted sauces and a variety of flavor-enhancing cooking techniques, should satisfy most palates. A dish of chewy smoked seitan evokes Peking duck, while an entree of wide green-tea noodles is served in a tasty faux Bolognese sauce. New England rolls, filled with mushrooms, are excellent. Gobo's scallion pancakes are a bit dry, and the beet salad is low on beets, but the majority of dishes, especially those showcasing vegetables, are delicious in their simplicity.
The Extras

Stop by the front area to pick up one of a variety of fresh juices and smoothies.

When to Go

Every day from 12pm to 5pm, Gobo offers a dozen or so bento-style prix-fixe lunches for just $8 to $9.

Of course I am going to give my restaurant an A+!

What is Gobo? Where does Gobo come from? It is a Japanese word for burdock root, long used by herbalists to detoxify the body. Also, our tagline "food for the five senses" is from Buddhist philosophy meaning to awaken the root of the five senses and in turn awaken the sixth sense, the mind.

Asian influenced and globally inspired, the cuisine at Gobo can be described as delicious and fulfilling. Chef de Cuisine, Yuki Chen, creates a unique World Vegetarian Cuisine for Gobo after over 10 years of Chinese “temple-inspired vegetarian cooking” at Zen Palate.

Both David and Darryn Wu, the owners of Gobo restaurant, had a vision to open a restaurant to serve delicious food that was just non-meat and non-seafood. They wanted to celebrate with vegetarians and delightfully surprise non-vegetarians, creating a special dining experience for both. Completely vegan it is not, a lot of vegan choices it is. Enjoy vegetarian cuisine that spans the globe from rissotto to herbed cream stuffed eggplants.

Great food, not great service

The food here is amazing if you like vegetarian specialties. It's creative, worldly, and presented so beautifully. The wines were delicious. I went with my manager and his wife, and they treated us well, recommended good wines, but also had a bit of an attitude. I would go with some people and just order a ton of dishes, which range from great appetizers to bigger plates. Prices are reasonable, and the space is pretty trendy and cool, very organic-feeling. If you're in the West village, it's worth a look.
